Vasileios Apostolopoulos

Vasileios Apostolopoulos MBBS, MRCS MD (Res) FRCS (SN) completed his neurosurgical training in London. He developed an interest in brain tumour surgery early on, saying he felt that more efforts needed to fight the corner of the extraordinary brain tumour patients.

With this in mind he carried out research and completed a thesis on histological validation of 3D intraoperative ultrasound in brain tumour surgery, at Imperial College London,  and completed a Royal College of Surgeons fellowship in brain tumour surgery and awake surgery. Working in Oxford since 2015, he’s introduced the integrated intraoperative ultrasound that provides real-time feedback of the progress of brain tumour resections.

His research interest is to develop further the usage of intraoperative ultrasound in brain tumour surgery and make brain tumour resections safer and more beneficial for patients. At present he is the lead of Clinical Governance for Neurosurgery in Oxford, the body that scrutinises the safety of the overall care of neurosurgical patients.
